Our trip to the Apple
Orchard was lots of fun! It began with a tour of the “Apple Barn” where we learned a little about how apples
grow, how they are sorted and packaged for sale, how cider is made and how
apples are stored for the winter. It
seems as if everyone loved walking
into the “refrigerator room”
even though it was sooo cold!
We all enjoyed the walk up the big hill (some kids thought it was like
mountain climbing) where we had our picnic and then picked apples. Back in
the classroom we made applesauce, apple
pancakes, and apple crisp. Our
class book about our trip to the orchard will be making its way to your house
very soon. |

We just completed our unit
on fire safety. A visit to the fire
trucks and rescue vehicles taught us about some of the equipment on the
trucks and the difference between trucks that respond to building fires and
those that are for forest fires.
Justine Gendreau , a volunteer at the Quinebaug fire station, then
visited us in the classroom and showed us some of the gear that firefighters
use. We also learned the importance of
knowing our full name, address, and our family meeting place just in case we
ever had a fire at home. |
